Open Question: Marriage license was sent in 7 months late, divorce help.?

My "other" and my self got married in Aug of 2009, We where not ready but went threw the the ceremony. How ever we did not turn in the marriage license until 3 months ago. Because we where expecting a child and needed the insurance. Obviously not the smartest thing to do. Now are are looking at getting a divorce. Is there any way we can just say it should never have been excepted and never have been married? Or am i looking at a normal ugly divorce? Not in any way happy about the situation just for the FYI.
